Rebecca and Jay Hannan Saturday 4 June 2022

Rebecca and Jay tied the knot on Saturday 4 June 2022 with a ceremony in the chapel followed by a beautiful reception in the Radcliffe Room.

Rebecca and Jay's story involved a chance meeting, a proposal captured on film and a rendition of 'Angels' by the whole wedding party!

We hope you feel inspired...

So, how did you two meet?

Jay and I are from different parts of the north east and ended up going on a school trip as our secondary schools were part of a foundation and met when we were 14 (Rebecca) and 15 (Jay). We then went through our different walks of life but stayed in brief contact and eventually randomly met one another again when Jay was at university in Newcastle and I went up on a night out with my friends (we were 18 and 19) and we have never looked back since.

When did you know they were ‘the one’/ how did they pop the question?

When we knew:
We were sat on a beach in Kho Tao in 2014 with a cocktail and Jay just looked at me and said I know you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, we had only been dating 9 months at this point.

Popping the question:
We were on a staycation in September 2020 (as everyone was haha) in Somerset. We went out for a walk at Cheddar Gorge and I decided we would take a Champagne picnic as why not we were on our hols and as we got to the top of Cheddar Gorge we sat down to get our picnic and Jay went to set up his camera to get a picture of the view with us in on timer mode. Little did Rebecca know Jay had indeed sorted out the camera but he couldn’t get the ring out of the rucksack as it was so hidden but he was pretending the camera was broken. All this time Rebecca was getting impatient and then when Jay finally got to stand and pose for the picture. He then got down on one knee and asked the question (all this time the camera was on record mode rather than taking a picture so it’s actually all on film)

What was the biggest MUST HAVE for your wedding?

Jay: Wedding singers & a photographer/videographer that capture your idea/style perfectly.
Rebecca: Wedding Singers

Other than saying ‘I do’ what is the most unforgettable moment from the day?

Jay: Seeing Rebecca walk down the aisle for the first time and looking at everyone else being there and supporting/loving us. Other than that it has to be when the whole room were up on the chairs singing Angels with the singing waiters.
Rebecca: When we were in the chapel and we had all our guests singing Jerusalem and also seeing my Dad and Jay’s faces when they saw me.

Which supplier was a real stand out for you? The unsung star who deserves a special mention.

Jay: Father Ian, and the Photographer & Videographer. Father Ian set the tone for the day wonderfully, with his relaxed nature and humour during our ceremony. But both the photographer and videographer blending in so well with the guests that we didn’t even realise they were there.
Rebecca: I have 2 - Jess Duffy (Make Up) she was a calming influence on the morning and couldn’t believe how amazing she was and made everyone look gorgeous & Victoria Ivy: she understood everything that Jay and I wanted and made manage to enhance the already amazingly beautiful room at Rudding.

What was it in your eyes that gives Rudding Park the WOW factor?

Jay: The venue speaks for itself, the grounds and building are amazing. But the staff are incredible too and really make you feel at home.
Rebecca: For me it is the chapel and grounds it is breath takingly stunning.

How did you style the space? Did your wedding day have a theme?

Our florist used these words in our first meeting with her to describe our wedding and it was Classic, Timeless & Elegant. We wanted everything to look clean and fresh but with a little pops of colours in there which we used pale pinks.

What is your funniest memory from the day?

The singing waiters seeing all the guests faces when they revealed their true identity which wasn’t in the usual falling over and dropping a tray way.

What’s your best advice you could give to couples who are about to tie the knot at Rudding Park?

Relax, a few times in the day take a step back with your new husband/wife and just look at everyone there and take it all in as it goes by so quickly. Most importantly – have fun.

And finally, we’d love to hear about your experience with Rudding Park…

We cannot fault Rudding Park at all everything about our experience was AMAZING! From the first time we visited we were blown away by the place and the staff. Nothing was too much to ask for, everything we wanted for our day we got and more! We will definitely be frequent visitors!

Every single one of our guests complimented how incredible the staff were at Rudding Park and how much of an amazing venue it is which I think is a true testament to the whole team.
