Green Policy

Although Rudding Park prides itself on providing a high quality, comfortable and safe environment for all guests and staff, we are conscious of the impact we have on the environment and it is therefore our responsibility to minimise wherever possible any detrimental effects our operations may have.

In addition to delivering this commitment we will also:

  • Understand the environmental impact associated with all of our operations
  • Comply with relevant environmental legislation
  • Incorporate environmental management into our day to day business practices where possible
  • Minimise the waste we produce and increase the amount we reuse and recycle
  • Wherever possible source environmentally-friendly, local products and services
  • Work with our guests, suppliers and contractors to ensure we minimise our impact on the environment
  • Promote awareness and provide training for our employees to ensure environmental issues are kept at the forefront of everyone’s mind
  • Regularly monitor and report on energy use
  • Review our targets annually
  • Identify and explore opportunities to reduce wastage

In the last year:

  • We have planted over 1,000 trees which will contribute to offsetting approx. 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over their lifetime.

Of our total resort waste:
53% was sent to a Refuse Derived Fuel Plant to create energy
35% was recycled through a materials recovery facility
12% recycled direct from site segregation e.g. glass and cardboard.

  • The largest sources of water use at Rudding Park are The Spa and golf courses. Water from our borehole is used for the spa pools and irrigation on the golf courses.
  • Omnia Water is bottled water from our natural aquifer, rich in natural minerals and will be used in our restaurants, staff areas and will be available for sale. Omnia glass bottles are recycled on the resort, washed, sterilised and re-used.
  • Fully electric fleet of guest cars and all distribution of food and drink within the resort is by electric vehicle.
  • 8 EV charging points and we will install approx 30 guest facing EV charging points.
  • Food is purchased locally (within 50 miles) where possible. Our Kitchen Garden features 52 raised beds made from English Oak trees grown in the grounds at Rudding Park and the team grow 500 different herbs, salads, edible flowers and fruit. Waste is used for staff canteen.
  • Over 5 tonnes of composting was generated last year which was re-distributed in Rudding Park Kitchen Garden.
  • We have investigated alternative sources of sustainable and clean energy production which are projects in progress, including; clean and sustainable sources for energy such as, solar PV production of electricity, ground and air source heat pumps, and hydrogen based electrical generation.
  • As part of our strategy to Net Zero we are introducing a new energy centre to provide significant heating efficiencies to the resort, reducing carbon dioxide by 30%.
  • We have multiple air source heat pumps across the resort.
  • Forge Waste collects all cardboard which is bailed and/or separated and processed for recycling. This recycling process will save the following in the year:
  • 510 trees used in the production of cardboard
  • 210,000 gallons of water used in the production of cardboard
  • 1,380 gallons of oil used in the production of cardboard
  • All glass is separated on site and sent to a glass recycling centre, which has offset 12,600kg of Carbon Dioxide.
  • We work with a company called ReFood – a food waste recycling company. Food waste is sent to an anaerobic digester which is converted into biogas and fertilisers, which will generate over 10,000KW of renewable energy, displacing 16 tonnes of CO2. This energy will power 4 averaged sized UK homes.
  • Old towels, robes and blankets are given to the Harrogate Homeless Charity.

This policy statement will be reviewed annually to ensure that it remains applicable to the activities at Rudding Park Limited.
